With homebuyers raising objection to the “exorbitant” amount charged by the PSU, a bench of Justices Arun Mishra and U U Lalit asked NBCC chairman Anoop Mittal, who was present in the court, to be reasonable.

“We repose faith and trust NBCC to finish the project as it is a PSU and making profit is not motive for it. Let the NBCC not take it (completing Amrapali’s housing projects) as profit venture. There are more than 43,000 homebuyers involved and they will be thankful to you for completing the projects. Lessen your margin and be reasonable,” the bench said.

The court said that it intended to realise the dream of homebuyers to get possession of their homes and the PSU should undertake the projects with the same spirit. The court, however, assured the company that it would not suffer any financial loss and it would be properly compensated for competing the projects.

NBCC in its proposal assured SC to complete the construction of 46,575 flats in 19 projects in Noida and Gr Noida.
